musical Script with songs

Scene opens – half hearted singing by group of “Joy to the World” “curtains are drawn and Logan and Anna are part of congregation “choir” – after song is sung - they join Tammie up front and we begin musical without any intro. Congregation is part of opening number.

Tammie: Wow! That was just awful. We are going to be performing our musical next weekend in front of your parents, your teachers, and the entire community. This is a song about feeling joy and being happy because the Savior of the world has finally arrived. But, I hear no joy in your voices or hearts.

Anna: But it happened so long ago, and doesn’t really have anything to do with today does it? Christmas is more about Santa, presents, being with family. The meaning has totally changed.

Logan: Yeah. I mean, we know we have to follow Jesus and stuff, but He’s not here with us, and we can’t feel Him, or really know who He is.

Anna: Yeah, and none of us have even been to Bethlehem. It’s not like going to see Elsa or going to Disneyworld or someplace cool. Now, that’s something I can get excited about. Maybe if we sang Frozen songs for Christmas, we’d be more excited.

Logan: It’s too bad we can’t go to Bethlehem and see where he was born.

Tammie: You guys are missing the point. Jesus isn’t about going somewhere like a concert or Disney – it’s about going to SOMEONE. And when you find that someone, Jesus, you’ll begin the greatest journey of your life, and your life will never be the same.

Intro begins – children begin to enter/interact. Logan and Anna enter from the side- looking around in wonder and bewilderment. Emma goes to join them.

Logan: What in the world? How did we get here? Where is this place?

Anna: I think you took a wrong turn on Bell and Reems.

Emma: Hi, are you here for the census? You must be from a far off country dressed like that!

Logan: What census? I thought the census already happened.

Emma: Caesar Augustus.... (gets interrupted).

Kids: May his name be praised –(very halfheartedly/air quotes).

Emma: He has said everyone needs to return to their “hometown” to be counted. And, once the census was announced – we’ve had this great star in the sky guiding people here. (Points to the star)

Emma: We’ve had all sorts of people come to Bethlehem. Usually Jerusalem is the happening place, but not this last year.

Skylar: It’s been quite a year. So exciting, and some people have been talking about the scriptures and that the long awaited Messiah will be arriving sometime during the census.

Emma: We’ve had dignitaries, kings, people from all over who were guided by that star. Is that how you got here? I know it’s something I’ll never forget. In fact, I know I’ll tell this story years from now.

(“Year of the Star” solos = Emma 1st Verse; Skylar 2nd Verse)

Olivia: (hurriedly comes up to the group) Have you heard? Have you heard?

Group: What? Tell us. Etc.

Olivia: A baby was born in our stable last night. My mom even said He’s the promised Messiah we’ve been waiting for. In fact, if you listen, you can hear the music that we’ve been hearing since yesterday

(“Listen” solos = Emma 1st Verse; Olivia & Cheyanne 2nd Verse; Emma & Riley 3rd Verse)

Skylar: C’mon everyone. Let’s go see the baby. Maybe we can find out His name.

(Logan & Anna hang back.)

Anna: Do you think that baby is Jesus?

Logan: I’m not sure what’s going on here, but I want to find out. This is pretty exciting isn’t it?

(Stable doors open up and Mary (Paislee), Joseph (David), and baby are there in the manger.

(“We’ll Call Him Jesus solo = Olivia on spoken part)

Riley: Gosh! He’s so tiny.

Logan: Do you really think he’s the promised Messiah? That he’s been sent here to save the world?

Paislee: Yes. An angel appeared to me and told me that I would give birth to God’s only Son, and that Joseph and I are to raise Him.

Emma: Is this really Jesus?

Paislee: Yes, Jesus Emmanuel. “God is with us”

Olivia: This is so exciting. We are actually seeing Jesus!

(“He is Emmanuel” solos = Logan 1st Verse; Skylar 2nd Verse)

Riley: He’s more than just Jesus Emmanuel!

Aria: He is Wonderful Counselor!

Addison: Mighty God!

Aidian: Everlasting Father!

Emma: Prince of Peace! Did God tell you how this little baby is going to save the world? Do you know what’s going to happen with Jesus?

(Song/Video Here: “Mary Did You Know” sung by Amy Abrahamson)

(“Away in a Manger” solo = Paislee)

Emma: Wow! He really is the long awaited King! (to Anna &Logan) Have you found what you’re looking for?

Anna: No, but we’ve found WHO we are looking for.

Logan: And, Pastor Tammie was right – once you find Jesus, you’ll never be the same. I hope it’s not too late.

Anna: With Jesus it’s never too late.

Logan: Wow! Christmas takes on an entirely different meeting once you know Jesus! I can’t wait to get back home and share Jesus with everyone.

(The end)
